名古屋出身。4歳よりヴァイオリンを始める。第4回日本クラシック音楽コンクール小学生の部奨励賞受賞。第51回全日本学生音楽コンクール小学生の部名古屋大会第1位、第52回同コンクール中学生の部第1位。第11回大阪国際音楽コンクールAge G部門第3位。2000年より、アメリカのボストンにあるウォールナットヒル芸術高校に奨学生として単身留学。2004年同校卒業。同時にニューイングランド音楽院高等部、弦楽部門最優秀成績で終了。
同年、ニューイングランド音楽院入学。翌年同校を休学し兵庫芸術文化センター管弦楽団に最年少コアメンバーとして入団。同団第1回ソリストコンクールで優勝。2007年5月に同団とストラビンスキーヴァイオリン協奏曲を協演。2007年9月よりニューイングランド音楽院復学。2010年5月に卒業。在学中、野村国際文化財団より留学助成金を受領。
2007年~2008年、スイスヴェルビエフェスティバルオーケストラメンバー、2008年~2009年ネポンセットバリーオーケストラ第二ヴァイオリン主席。オーケストラ以外にも室内楽奏者としても精力的に活動。2008年よりピアニスト贄川二葉とデュオ“OTO”を結成。第4回横浜国際音楽コンクールデュオ部門1位なしの第2位。(財)地域創造の音活フォーラムに弦楽四重奏一員として参加。2011年ナンシーゼルツマンマリンバフェスティバル(Appleton, WI)にゲストアーティスト、ゲストスピーカーとして招聘.
また、新曲の開拓にも意欲的でウェイチェ・リンのヴァイオリン独奏のための「ウィ―ブ」をニューヨークのカーネギーホールで演奏する他、第2次世界大戦にてナチスの犠牲者となったマーセル・ティバーグの弦楽六重奏を初演。その演奏はBuffaloNews紙に「厳粛で引き付ける演奏」と称賛される。
これまでにヴァイオリンを森下陽子、渡邊穣、森悠子、故マリルー・チャーチル、ジェームス・バズウェルの各氏に師事。

Yuka Sato, Violinist
Born in Nagoya, Japan, Yuka Sato is a violin soloist, chamber musician and orchestra player. She became the youngest member of the Hyogo Performing Arts Center Orchestra in Japan just after completion of her first year at New England Conservatory of Music.
Sato started violin lessons at age four and, over the years, won top prizes in various competitions including the Japan Classical Music Competition, All Japan Mainichi Young Artists Competition, Yokohama International Competition, and Osaka International Competition. In 2000, she moved to United States to study at the Walnut Hill School of the Arts, and at the New England Conservatory Preparatory Division where her teachers were Marylou Churchill and James Buswell. Sato earned her Bachelor’s degree from the New England Conservatory of Music under the tutelage of James Buswell. She also attended the Sarasota Music Festival, Verbier Festival, and Pacific Music Festival. She was invited as a guest performer and guest speaker to Zeltsman Marimba Festival in Appleton WI in 2011.
Sato has appeared as a concerto soloist with the Hyogo Performing Arts Center Orchestra, its alumni string orchestra, and the Boston Chamber Orchestra, among others. She enjoys exploring unusual repertoire from the eighteenth to twenty-first centuries. She has premiered new music by various composers, including Marcel Tyberg’s String Sextet which was a “serious, compelling performance” (Buffalo News). She is the violinist of the duo “OTO” with pianist Futaba Niekawa; since 2008, they have actively performed in both Japan and the United States.
